Hip replacement, which is also known as total hip arthroplasty, is a surgery to replace the injured or worn out joint with an artificial joint (prosthesis) which are usually constructed of metal, very hard plastic, or ceramics. The surgery usually is done when all other treatment options have failed to provide adequate pain relief. The procedure should relieve a painful hip joint, making walking easier. Arthritis damage is the most common reason to do hip replacement surgery.
Please note that hip prosthesis like knee prothesis would last at least 10 to 15 years and implant revision is required afterwards.
