Cheek augmentation with fat transfer is a type of plastic surgery to improve facial fullness. Fat transfer is considered the most natural method of cheek augmentation, because unlike cheek implants or dermal fillers, the material used to increase the fullness is produced by patient’s own body. Accordingly, it will not be rejected by the body as a foreign substance.
Cheek augmentation with fat transfer is combined with liposuction. Because the fat should first be retrieved from the body, then injected to the cheeks.
Please note that cheek augmentation with fat transfer is not a permanent method to enhance the cheeks. If you are looking for a more permanent procedure, you should consider cheek implants.
The patient meets the plastic surgeon and discuss about the different methods of cheek augmentation. If you would like to do cheek augmentation with fat transfer, the followings are recommended:
Cheek augmentation with fat transfer is done under local anesthesia. Liposuction procedure is first performed to suction out fat from predetermined areas of the body. This is done through tiny incisions that leave almost no scarring. In the next step, fat cells are cleaned and purified for injection.
Usually, 10-15 CC’s of fat will be injected to each cheek. However, the placement and amount of injected fat might be different from one cheek to the other. Since the fat is natural and absorbable by the body, the doctor usually injects more fat to the cheeks. The patient will be discharged on the same day. A touch up might be required in couple of days to reposition fat.
Cheek augmentation with fat transfer is a fairly gentle procedure. It doesn’t leave any scar on the face or any part of the body and will be recovered soon. However, you should notice that it needs maintenance every 1 to 5 years.
Fat transfer is a non-invasive method for cheek augmentation.
It is normal for the injection areas to be bruised, red or swollen. The symptoms will fade in 10 days.
